PID Progress

Updated: Apr 3

Today the team successfully implemented PID temperature control! A new software module allows the Peltier module to heat up or passively cool down to the desired temperature. Additionally, the PID controller temperature ramp does not exceed the polling rate of the thermistor, avoiding tracking errors. The video below shows the system reaching a specified temperature of 45 degrees Celsius from a starting temperature of about 30 degrees Celsius.

The Team is considering implementing active cooling to allow for a snappier system response in addition to allowing inputs below room temperature. This approach would require implementing a heavy side PID function to account for system response differences between heating and cooling. However, for the time being, these plans are being shelved to allow for other MVP features to be developed.
